NEW YEARS EVE DANCE AT SADDLE & SPURS. The band for the evening was the very popular ‘Westridge’. The band was in their usual excellent form, keeping the listeners and dancers happy throughout the evening. This band has a wide repertoire of Country Music, some old, some new, some for dancing to and some for sitting back and listening to. These guys work 110% when they perform, and we all thoroughly enjoyed their performance.
Unfortunately Westrige had a breakdown en route, so were unable to do sound checks before the dance started. It was not their fault, but it meant waiting for them to tune in their equipment before they could begin. This got me thinking about how often this happens without any genuine reason. It’s a personal ‘niggle’, - but I’ve found this kind of disruption seems to be the norm nowadays, when we have to sit around listening to all manner of squeeks, squeels and “testing one two three” etc. from the stage before the show can go on. I’ve even been present when the DJ introduced a band to resounding applause, and instead of hearing the expected music, what did we get? “Squeel Squeek, testing, testing” If a professional outfit is getting paid to entertain, then the necessary technical adjustments should be made before the
dance starts. Has anyone any interesting thoughts on the subject?
SADDLE & SPURS are re-starting a complete beginners slot on Monday evenings if you know of anyone wishing to give it a whirl you can point them in the direction of Sue or Emma. You will find the info on a brand new ‘Saddle & Spurs’ page I have added to this web site, which you can find by hovering your mouse over the ‘Dance’ tab at the top of any page. So in future you will be able to find out what is happening at S&S directly from the ‘Kinda Country’ web site.
KINDA COUNTRY CLASSES are almost back to normal after the break for Christmas and New Year. Two dances were taught on Wednesday at the ‘Vale’. A 64 count like or dislike dance called ‘Loslappie’ to the music of the same name by Kurt Darren from South Africa. A few dancers found it a bit challenging, especially the tag, but overall I think most people enjoyed it.
The second one ‘Terracotta Sunset’ is a 32 count cha cha rhythm dance to a lovely dreamy track by Ronnie Collins called ‘Town Of Fewer People’, which can be seen on video on the ‘Home’ page.
Enjoy your dancing, and A Happy New Year to you all.
Whoops!... Someone asked me.... “Why have you removed the video of Kinda Country Christmas Dance from the site?”... My sincere apologies; I moved it from the home page whilst updating KC intending to relocate elsewhere, and completely forgot about it. I really could do with a secretary to organise things for me. So here we go again, a reminder of a great night to end a smashing year of line dance in the company of our many irreplaceable friends.
I will be standing in for Instructor Sue Pysden at Saddle & Spurs during her forthcoming holiday break. Commencing Friday 27 January I will be taking over Sue’s Friday slot for 6 weeks. Details of classes and times can be found on an additional page to this site. Hover over the ‘Dance’ tab above or follow this link: Saddle & Spurs.
